Galicia, located in the northwestern corner of Spain, is a charming region of captivating landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and warm-hearted inhabitants. In 2024, Galicia will take over the coordination of the tourist brand of the northern peninsula, also known as Green Spain.
Politics and Society
In the political arena, Galicia has witnessed significant changes. The Popular Party (PP), which has governed the region for much of the past four decades, faces the possibility of being defeated. The leader of the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), Ana Pontón, has emerged from the margins and is predicted to win up to 30 seats. If Pontón wins, she would be the first woman and the first nationalist leader of Galicia.
Immigration
As for immigration, 2024 has been a year of significant developments in Spain. Changes have been introduced in the requirements to obtain certain residence permits, as well as the introduction of new permits and the elimination of others. In April 2024, the Spanish government announced plans to eliminate the Golden Visa, removing the option of obtaining a residence visa in Spain through investment in properties.
Tourism
Galicia offers a variety of unique tourist experiences. From camping in the Cíes Islands to exploring Santiago de Compostela, there is something for everyone. In 2024, Galicia will host the FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in October, and also the Grand Prix of Galicia, which will be held in Lugo in May.
